Nintendo 3DS Screenshots: Pilotwings Resort
About a week ago I tried out Pilotwings Resort. It is not an intense game with a lot depth, but it is a great looking game that gives a great feel to what the 3DS can do. The 3D aspect is good and it is fun to fly around and over the island I am used to cycling around in Wii Fit Plus. I also like the you use your Mii character for the profile and fly using it.
The flying is pretty easy to get used to, although the jet pack I could not really get a hang of. Of course, I only played the game for about 40 minutes total and mostly with the airplane and only a little with the hang glider and very little with the jet pack.
Overall Pilotwings Resort is a fun game, but is more of a rent or borrow game rather than a game to actually own unless you get it cheap used unless you really love the game.

Kongregate Badge of the Day: Bloodied Blade
The Kongregate Badge of the Day for Wednesday, May 25, 2011 is Bloodied Blade This is a Medium rated badge for the game Shadowreign RPG. To get the badge you need to defeat 100 enemies. For getting this Badge of the Day you get 17 Gamestop PowerUp Reward Points.
Not sure how truly difficult this badge is, but the game is certainly frustrating me. I spent 10 minutes on my first try just figure out that it glitched and I had to restart to try to get the starting guy to drop the weapon and let me actually play the game. I now have the weapon, but no longer feel much like playing. Might come back to it later today.

Nintendo 3DS Screenshots: Ridge Racer
Ridge Racer is a decent racing game for the Nintendo 3DS. I got it as a Gamefly rental and enjoyed playing it for several hours over the course of a week. As just a racing game it is a lot fun, but as a 3D game it is only so-so.
The 3D graphics are not bad, but the aspect of a racing game and 3D graphics that require you to look at the screen straight on does not always work out well. This is because if you are the kind of person that tends to tilt the controller and/or game system when playing racing games the graphics go blurry as you race. I only do it a little every once in a while, so most of the time I did not have a problem with the 3D graphics, but boy could it cause trouble when I did tilt the 3DS just a bit.
While the 3D aspect does not really work great for a racing game, it is not the game's fault. I still had fun playing through the first 5 to 7 Grand Prixes. However, after a while the courses got boring and my thumb got really tired of using the B button. For some reason, I can go way long if the button is the A button for acceleration. Even after several hours of playing the game I still wanted to keep using the A button to accelerate at the start of some races. I think you can change the controls, but not sure if it can be changed to A for the acceleration, as I did not think of changing controls until after I mailed the game back.
Overall Ridge Racer is not a bad game for the 3DS if you are into the Ridge Racer games and/or racing games. However, if you are the type to tilt the system, it is not worth the 3D aspect. Also, the first few Grand Prixes are kind of boring and you have to get past them before it gets even sort of challenging and more interesting scenery.

Kongregate Badge of the Day: The Hunt for Red Button
The Kongregate Badge of the Day for Monday, May 16, 2011 is The Hunt for Red Button. This is a Medium rated badge for the game ButtonHunt 2. To get the badge you need to find all the red buttons/beat the game. For getting this Badge of the Day you get 15 Gamestop PowerUp Reward Points.
It is not too hard to beat this game, but I found the asteroids part extremely hard. I kept clicking and holding to drag the asteroid and it would suddenly run into an asteroid that was unavoidable. Finally, the controls worked as they should.
Here is a walkthrough if you need help with some of the levels. I found it when the asteroids were not working for me, which it did not help me with as it was some sort of glitch, and then used it for a few of the not too obvious levels.

Kongregate Badge of the Day: Icebreaker
The Kongregate Badge of the Day for Saturday, May 14, 2011 is Icebreaker. This is a Medium rated badge for the game Icy Gifts. To get the badge you need get 3 stars on each of the 36 levels. For getting this Badge of the Day you get 17 Gamestop PowerUp Reward Points.
Icy gifts is an interesting game. You click to blow up ice gifts and they start chain reactions including with some special items. It really helps to get the upgrades. I played through all the levels once upgrading as I could and then went back and played the ones I did not get 3 stars on the first time I beat the level. Some of the levels took quite a few replays, but overall it did not take me more than 20 minutes to get this badge.

Kongregate Badge of the Day: Bake a Pretty Cake
The Kongregate Badge of the Day for Thursday, May 12, 2011 is Pants full of Squiggles. This is a Medium rated badge for the game Hanna in a Choppa. To get the badge you need complete all 21 levels. For getting this Badge of the Day you get 17 Gamestop PowerUp Reward Points.
I was surprised that this game only took me about 25 minutes to get through all the levels. Overall it is pretty simple. There are a few challenging parts, but at least how to beat most levels is rather straightforward as long as you read the words placed around the levels. I think the hardest part was figuring out that I should pull the tower towards me in level 20 to be able to get past it. That and the fan level kept making me go fast and crash before I could get to the flag.

Nintendo 3DS Screenshots: Steel Divers
Steel Divers 3DS is the first 3DS game I was able to rent through Gamefly. Honestly, none of the currently released 3DS games appeal to be other than possibly Pilot Wings, so I did not have major expectations from the game. I just wanted to see some of the 3D graphics in action.
The graphics for Steel Diver is not bad, but there really is not much to the game. I will admit I did not even try all the different modes after the periscope levels annoyed me. It just has too many different things to control and mostly on the touch screen, which is hard for wanting to change multiple things at once.
The concept of a submarine simulation game is kind of cool and the download play game is interesting, but the difficulty of the periscope aspect does not make for a great casual game to download play. However, I think there is definitely good replay value and it is great for those that want a more intense download play experience. Thus while I did not really like the game, I still recommend it for those that think it sounds interesting to give it a shot.
