With the Oceania expansion added to the online Wingspan game, I have been trying to unlock the new achievements. In particular, I have been trying to focus on getting the flightless birds when they come to get the Unflappable - Play 3 flightless birds in one game achievement.
In an online game today, I started the game with one of my least favorite bonus cards, but I decided to actually try to play to it and mostly only drew cards that had enough space for 4 eggs. Because of this I kept the Emu as part of my starting birds. Pretty sure I would have kept this one no matter the bonus card because of the Unflappable achievement, but really I forgot about going for Unflappable and really stayed focused on only drawing birds with 4+ egg slots.
In the 3rd round, the Southern Cassowary and the Little Penguin came up on the tray. I drew them both because the Southern Cassowary was a good way to get a bird with 4 eggs for the bonus card and as I love penguins I always go for the Little Penguin. After I finished the turn for drawing the birds, I then realized I really had to play both those birds before the end of the game to unlock the achievement.
Luckily, I already had the Baltimore Oriole played for berries and the White Sparrow in the Woodlands as a good bird to discard for the Southern Cassowary and to be far enough for gaining 3 food. If I had not spent so many turns for food and played the Black Noddy and managed a tuck card for the final round end goal and laid eggs instead of food I may have won, but definitely more satisfying to manage the Unflappable achievement.
