Nintendo Wii U: Disney Infinity Getting Started and Pirate Adventure

Disney Infinity Wii U

Disney Infinity is similar in concept to Skylanders with it involving a base and actual action figures that are transported into the game, but it is also very different and so much more.  The game comes with three characters and a crystal for three play sets (these are for the adventure mode style gaming with missions and such.  The game also comes with one random series 1 power disc, which unlocks special things to use and play with in the Toy Box mode (Mincraft type mode in that in this mode you design and play in your own Disney universe).  There are currently 20 discs in series 1 plus an exclusive one from gold Toys R Us power disc blind packs.

I started by playing with Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean play set.  I thought it was pretty cool because it at least begins being like you are in the Pirates of the Caribbean theme park ride scenes.

Overall my initial thoughts on the game is that it has a lot to explore and do, especially with the creative aspect of the Toy Box (you can create multiple save files with different worlds/designs).  I am a major Disney fan, though, so to me the Toy Box mode is totally appealing and is like bringing the magic of the parks into your home.  The adventure mode is also fun, as you can play through different missions depending on the play set and character you choose.

Of course, Disney Infinity can also be a costly game to get into, as there are already two different play sets to purchase (Lone Ranger and Cars), about a dozen figures, and the power discs are in blind packs of 2 that could mean buying a lot to complete the set.  However, just with the starter set you can do a lot and slowly build the collection.  Also, I noticed Toys R Us stores already have a trade event planned in September, so you could trade your duplicate power discs and maybe get lucky enough to only have to purchase 10 packs total, although the 3 rare orange ones are likely going to mean needing more to trade orange for orange (I got one orange - Dumbo - from my purchase of 6 packs).
